UCLA Tops USC In Women's Basketball

Los Angeles, CA - The UCLA women's basketball team posted a 65-53 win over USC this afternoon in a Pac-10 game played in Pauley Pavilion before a crowd of 4,010. Michelle Greco, the conference's leading scorer, topped UCLA with 23 points to pace three Bruins in double figures.
Greco scored 15 of her game-high point total in the second half which helped UCLA rally from a 30-25 halftime deficit. USC upped its advantage to as many as nine at 42-33 with 14:59 remaining in the game before UCLA staged its comeback. The Bruins outscored the Women of Troy 16-1 over the next five minutes to take a 49-43 lead with 9:40 to play. Greco scored eight of the 16 points herself during that five minute stretch. Bruin sophomore point guard Natalie Nakase added six points of her own during the run and ended the game with a career-high matching 11 points to go along with five assists and three steals.
USC, now 5-8, 0-3 on the year, managed to tie the game at 49 with 6:26 to play when freshman forward Ebony Hoffman converted a pair of free throws. Hoffman, who totaled 13 points for the game, hit a shot in the lane for a 51-50 Trojan margin at the 5:45 mark, but it was the last lead of the contest for the visitors.
UCLA sophomore forward Kristee Porter scored a lay-in on an assist from Greco as the Bruins regained the lead at 52-51. Greco then hit five out of six free throws to close out the Trojans, who were held scoreless for the final 3:31 of the game. The win marked the sixth UCLA win in the last seven meetings in the series, which USC leads 29-24.
Junior center Malika Leatham added 13 points and nine rebounds for UCLA, which upped its record to 2-12, 1-2. Freshman guard Aisha Hollans paced USC with 14 points.
The two teams will host the Arizona schools next week in Los Angeles. Arizona State (10-6, 2-2) will meet UCLA at 7 p.m. on Thursday night in Pauley. Arizona (14-2, 4-0) will be at USC on Thursday.
