Stanford will put its perfect record on the line vs. California in thisweek's hardwood rivalry. . . UCLA, with its five-game winning streak,and USC head to the desert to face Arizona State and Arizona. . . TheWashington schools dip into Oregon for a few battles among the Northwestschools. . . The polls this week - STANFORD (No. 1 AP, No. 1 USAToday/ESPN), ARIZONA (No. 17 AP, No. 17 USA Today/ESPN), and USC (No. 24AP, No. 20 USA Today/ESPN).

UCLA sophomore forward Jason Kapono has been named the Pacific-10Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan.8-15, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Kapono, from Lakewood, Calif., averaged 24.0 points and 8.5 rebounds invictories over USC and Villanova.

He tallied 20 points (5-13 FG, 8-8 FT) and nine rebounds against No. 19USC, then added a career-high 28 points (9-14 FG, 8-9 FT) and eightrebounds vs. Villanova. For the week, he shot 14-of-27 (.519) from thefield and 16-of-17 (.941) from the free throw line. Kapono has scored 20or more points seven times this season.

It is the first weekly award for Kapono, the 36th all-time honor for theBruins.

ARIZONA - Senior center Loren Woods' triple-double (13 pts/10 rbs/10blks) vs. Washington was the second of his career. It was also thefifth in Arizona history and the 13th in Pac-10 history. Woods is the firstArizona player to notch two triple-doubles and just the second Pac-10player (Cal's Jason Kidd, 4) to accomplish the feat. . . Junior forwardMichael Wright moved into 19th place on UA's career scoring list with1,196 points. He scored 26 points at Washington to pass Coniel Norman(1973-74). . . Wright also collected his fourth double-double of theyear(29th of his career) with 26 points/10 rebounds on Saturday atWashington. . . In Thursday's win over Washington State, sophomoreGilbert Arenas set a school record for 3-point FG percentage byconnecting on a perfect 6-of-6 three-point attempts. . . Arizona is 6-0this season when scoring at least 80 points. . . The Wildcats held bothWashington schools to less than 30 percent shooting. The effort markedthe second and third times this season that UA has held an opponent toless than 30 percent FG shooting.

ARIZONA STATE - Junior forward Awvee Storey grabbed 15 boards againstWashington and then had career-high 16 vs. Washington State. The 16boards is the most by a Sun Devil since Mike Batiste had 18 in atriple-overtime win at Texas A & M on Dec. 19, 1998. Storey is averaging14.6 rebounds in his past three games. . . ASU hosts the Los Angelesschools this weekend, as last year it swept USC and UCLA in Tempe forthefirst time since 1986. . . ASU will try to beat UCLA in consecutivemeetings for the first time since the 1979-80 and 1980-81 squads puttogether three straight wins when it hosts the Bruins on Thursday. Lastyear, ASU ended a 22-game losing skid to the Bruins that dated to Feb.16, 1989 with a 104-75 win on Feb. 17 in Tempe.

CALIFORNIA - Senior forward Sean Lampley has led the Bears in scoring in12 of 15 games for the season, averaging 18.8 points per game (2nd inthe Pac-10). Lampley has scored at least 20 points in five consecutive gamesand six of the last eight games - in the other two games he scored 19vs. Yale and 18 vs. Coppin State. . . At 3-1 in league play, the Bears areoff to their best start since 1996.

OREGON - Oregon has won nine straight at McArthur Court dating back tolast season. That streak started after a 67-58 loss to Washington,Thursday night's opponent. . . The Ducks have gone 13-5 against theirfellow Northwest schools during Ernie Kent's tenure. . . Oregon has soldout four of the last five Pac-10 games at Mac Court. . . Freshmanforward Luke Jackson scored in double figures in back-to-back games with12 at Cal and 10 at Stanford and is Oregon's leading scorer off thebench (7.0 ppg). . . The 100 points put up by Stanford Saturday was the mostthe Cardinal have ever scored against the Ducks. . . Oregon failed togain at least split in a road series for the first time since 1997-98...The Ducks trying to avoid their first three-game losing streak sincethe 1998-99 season.

OREGON STATE - Oregon State has hit at least six three-pointers in agame in 12 games this season - most among Pac-10 teams. . . 46% of OSU'sfield goal attempts have come from behind the arc, Oregon is second at 38%. .. OSU has played 10 of its last 13 away from Gill Coliseum, the longestsuch streak since playing 10 of 12 out of Corvallis during the '85season. The 10 of 13 stretch is also the longest in the Pac-10 thisyear. Stanford played 9 of 12 away from Maples earlier. . . OSU's lastfive road opponents have a combined record of 55-15. . . Senior guardDeaundra Tanner enters this week needing 12 points to overtake BrentBarry and move into 10th place on OSU's all-time scoring list. Hecurrently has 1,293 points.

STANFORD - The Cardinal continue to blister the nets from beyond the arcas they are shooting 36-of 75 (.480) from three-point range over thelastfive games. Sophomore guard Casey Jacobsen has connected on at least 50percent of his three-point attempts in 11 of the 15 games he's playedthis season. He leads the Pac-10 in three-point field goal percentage(.519), hitting 42-of-81. . . With 153 career three-pointers, seniorforward Ryan Mendez ranks fifth all-time at Stanford.

UCLA - The Bruins have won five in a row and seven of their last eightgames. . . UCLA's win over Villanova was Steve Lavin's 100th school andcareer victory as UCLA's head coach. He's now 100-42 (70.4, 142 games)inhis five seasons as the Bruin coach. He reached the 100-win total fasterthan any coach in UCLA history except Jim Harrick, who got to 100 in theseventh game of his fifth season (100-36, 73.5, 136 games). . . This isthe first Lavin coached UCLA team to be 3-0 in the Pac-10 after thefirstthree Conference games. . . The Bruins have been using the press sincethe North Carolina game. Villanova was forced into 26 errors(second-highest opponent total) and USC 28 (highest opponent total). Inthe last four games, UCLA's opponents have 93 turnovers (23.3 per game).. .UCLA has outrebounded it's opponent in nine of 11 games. The Bruinsare 7-2 when outrebounding their opponent. . . Sophomore Jason Kaponoscored a career-high 28 points vs. Villanova.

USC - Junior forward Sam Clancy scored a career-high tying 31 points inthe loss at UCLA. He also posted 31 points vs. Bradley earlier thisseason. . . Clancy picked up a pair of blocked shots at UCLA, giving him100 for his career (4th on the USC career charts). The USC career recordis 128, held by Lorenzo Orr (1992-95). . . USC heads to Tucson/Tempethisweekend looking to sweep the Arizona schools on the road for the firsttime since 1985.

WASHINGTON - Senior forward Will Perkins picked up back-to-backdouble-doubles over the weekend and now has a league-leading sevendouble-doubles for the season. . . With an announced attendance of10,000to watch the Arizona game, the Huskies played before a capacity crowdforthe first time in newly renovated Bank of America Arena at HecEdumundsonPavilion. It was the largest home crowd to watch the Huskies on campussince prior to 1969 (capacity for Hec Ed was 12,200 between 1947-1969).

WASHINGTON STATE - With seven victories on the year, the Cougars havesurpassed their win total for the entire 1999-2000 season. . . WSU haswon seven in a row on Friel Court. Its longest home-court winning streaksince winning 13 in a row over the coarse of the 1993-94 and 1994-95seasons. Junior guard Mike Bush has led WSU in scoring in four of thefive games he's played this season, including a career-high 27 pointsvs.Arizona State in his last outing. . . The Cougars set a school recordfor free throws made in a Conference game with 37 against Arizona State.Bush was 17-of-21 from the line vs. the Sun Devils. . . WSU's 21-pointwin over Arizona State was it's largest margin of victory in a Pac-10game since a 25-point win over Arizona State on March 2, 1996. . . TheCougars look to snap a streak this weekend. They have lost a Pac-10record-tying 27-game road losing streak in Conference play. Oregon alsolost 27 consecutive Pac-10 road games during the 1991-94 seasons.
