OSU Moves Up To No. 14 In Wrestling Poll

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State moved up one place to No. 14 in this week's National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, which was released Wednesday. The Beavers (7-3 overall, 3-1 Pacific-10) will host Cal Poly and then 11th-ranked Boise State on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. in Gill Coliseum.

There are five Beavers in this week's individual national rankings. OSU 174-pounder Nathan Coy and heavyweight Jason Cooley are both ranked sixth by Amateur Wrestling News and eighth by InterMat, 157-pounder Eric Jorgensen is ranked seventh by AWN and eighth by IM, 125-pounder Nathan Navarro is ranked 10th by AWN and 11th by IM, and 133-pounder Ben Richards is ranked 20th by IM.

Some of Saturday's top matches could include OSU's Jorgensen against Boise State 157-pounder Kirk White, who is ranked third nationally by AWN and fourth by IM, Navarro against Boise State 125-pounder Ben Vombaur, who is ranked 16th by AWN and 19th by IM, Cooley against Boise State heavyweight Bart Johnson, who is ranked 19th by AWN, and Coy against Cal Poly 174-pounder Steve Strange, who is ranked 20th by IM.

Seven OSU wrestlers are in this week's Pacific-10 rankings, which include four wrestlers at each weight. Coy is ranked first at 174 pounds, ranked second are Navarro at 125 pounds, Shane Cunanan at 141 pounds, Jorgensen at 157 pounds and Cooley at heavyweight, ranked third is Richards at 133 pounds, and ranked fourth is Jason Lovell at 197 pounds.
