PULLMAN, Wash. -- - The final competition in this winter's Pacific-10 Conference Women's Indoor Tennis Championship will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. when Stacey McKenna and Moniek van de Ven from Washington State square off for the singles title for Flight IV.

The title match was originally slated to be part of the championship tournament last weekend in Seattle, but when it developed into an all-Cougar final, tournament officials agreed the pair could play for the title this week in Pullman.

Cougar coach Cari Groce selected Friday in Hollingbery Fieldhouse.

'This is probably the first time any part of the Pac-10 indoor championship has come to Pullman,' commented Groce. 'It will be fun for the two players to finish out the championship in front of their friends.'

The championship match pits a veteran international player and Cougar senior, van de Ven, from Stellenbosch, South Africa, against the rookie McKenna, who is from North Bend, Oregon. A hear ago McKenna was playing against high school players and now she is fighting for a Pac-10 indoor title.

McKenna reached the finals with a win over UCLA's Chelsea Goodbey (6-2, 6-4), then dumped Washington's Kathy Chi (6-0, 6-3) in the quarterfinals. To reach the title match she defeated Lisa Swierniak (6-2, 6-7, 6-5) from California in the semifinals.

On her trip to the Flight IV finals, van de Ven started off with a win over Oregon's Courtney Nagle (6-1, 6-3), then downed Jennifer Donahue from UCLA (6-1, 6-1) in the quarterfinals. Sunday she beat out USC's Caroline Christian (6-1, 6-1) to reserve a spot in the finals.
