Cal Men's Swimming Tops ASU, 162-133

TEMPE, AZ - The No. 7 ranked California men's swim team (4-0, 2-0 in Pac-10) defeated No. 13 ranked Arizona State (3-5), 162-133, in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, AZ. The new CSCCA rankings came out prior to Cal's 129-112 win over the new No. 6 ranked Arizona on Friday.

The Bears won 11 events against the ASU Sun Devils, highlighted by three individual victories by freshman Alex Lim. Lim picked up wins in the 100 back (48.94), 200 back (1:47.65) and 100 fly (49.33). He was also a member of Cal's victorious 400 medley relay (3:18.21 Lim, Daniel Kim, Hiro Sakoda, Anthony Ervin).

Other individual winners for the Bears were junior Ryan Gruver in the 1000 free (9:22.74), sophomore Daniel Kim in the 100 breast (56.04), junior Hiro Sakoda in the 200 fly (1:50.52), sophomore Anthony Ervin in the 100 free (43.87) and junior Peter Aronsson in the 200 breast (2:03.53).

Cal also won the 200 free relay (1:21.04 sophomore Frank Uxa, senior Scott Greenwood, junior Matt Macedo, Ervin) and the 400 free relay (swam as an exhibition 2:58.76 junior Matt Burney, Macedo, Greenwood, Ervin).

Cal will next host USC, Friday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
