Oregon Loses Thriller To Washington State, 67-64

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Joanna Smith came off the bench in the second half tohit three critical shots as Washington State edged No. 18 Oregon 67-64 onSaturday.

Smith gave the Cougars (8-8, 3-3) their first lead of the game, at 51-50,with a three-pointer with just over nine minutes to play. Brianne Meharry keptthe Ducks in the game with a jumper and a layin.

The Ducks led 64-62 on a jump shot by Kourtney Shreve with 65 minutes left.Smith then hit her third long-range shot with 17 seconds to play, puttingWashington State ahead 65-64.

Victoria Harrod's free throws gave the Cougars their final lead with 2.2seconds left on the clock.

Kelly Berglund led WSU with 14 points, while Jessica Ottmar added 12. Harrodhad a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Cougars hit all 15 shots from the free throw line.

Oregon (11-4, 4-1) battled the entire game, leading 33-26 at the half.Saturday's loss was the first in the Pac-10 in past five games.

Meharry led Oregon with a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds until shefouled out late in the game. Ndidi Unaka added 15 points and Jamie Craigheadhad 13.
