Tyler Gray Places Ninth At Pole Vault Summit

RENO, Nev. - Stanford sophomore Kathleen Donoghue (San Diego, CA) finished in a tie for sixth place on Jan. 20 at the annual Pole Vault Summit. Stanford sent four athletes to the event, which had over 1,000 entrants and 44 competitions ranging everywhere from beginner and high school to collegiate levels. This was the first indoor track meet of the season for the Cardinal.
Donoghue cleared 11 feet-11 3/4 inches to tie with five other athletes. Donoghue is the reigning U.S. Junior National champion in the pole vault and also competed in the 2000 U.S. Olympic trials.
Two-time All-American Melissa Feinstein (Weston, MA) tied for 11th place, also clearing 11-11 3/4. The senior currently holds the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 13-0 1/4. Donoghue tied that mark last season at the Cal/Nevada Championships.
The Stanford men were represented by freshman Tyler Gray (Cottonwood, CA), who placed 9th. Gray recorded a vault of 15-01 in his first meet as a Cardinal to tie with two other athletes.The indoor track team is next in action at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 27-28.
