OSU Moves Up To No. 12

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State jumped two places to No. 12 in this week's National Wrestling Coaches Association/The Mat national poll. The ranking is the highest of the season for the Beavers (9-3 overall, 5-1 Pacific-10), who have won four straight dual meets and are coming off a 25-10 win over No. 13 Boise State last Saturday.

OSU puts its ranking on the line Friday night when it hosts No. 17 Arizona State (5-3, 1-0) at 7:30 p.m. The Beavers are 6-1 this season at Gill Coliseum, where they are averaging nearly 1,000 fans per home date.

Oregon State has six wrestlers in this week's national rankings. The highest-ranked are 157-pounder Eric Jorgensen (No. 6 Amateur Wrestling News, No. 7 InterMat) and 174-pounder Nathan Coy (No. 6 AWN, No. 9 IM). Also ranked are heavyweight Jason Cooley (No. 7 AWN, No. 7 IM), 125-pounder Nathan Navarro (No. 10 AWN, No. 10 IM), 133-pounder Ben Richards (No. 17 IM) and 141-pounder Shane Cunanan (No. 20 AWN).

Arizona State counters with six nationally-ranked wrestlers of its own heading into Friday's dual: 141-pounder Eric Larkin (No. 3 AWN, No. 3 IM), 165-pounder Steve Blackford (No. 4 AWN, No. 5 IM), 184-pounder R.D. Pursell (No. 11 AWN, No. 19 IM), heavyweight Kellan Fluckiger (No. 12 AWN, No. 15 IM), 157-pounder Rocky Smart (No. 13 AWN, No. 10 IM) and 133-pounder David Douglas (No. 14 AWN, No. 12 IM).

ASU dropped eight spots in this week's national poll after going 1-2 at last week's National Duals. The Sun Devils beat Montana State Northern 35-8 before losing to No. 1 Oklahoma State 26-12 and Penn State 19-16.
