The No. 24 Washington Women's Tennis Team Downs Portland, 6-1

SEATTLE - The 24th-ranked Washington women's tennis team won five singles matches and all three doubles matches against Portland, 6-1, on Saturday at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center. Washington is now 3-2 on the season, while the Pilots fall to 3-2. The Husky netters will be back in action Friday, Feb. 23 as they take on Texas El-Paso at home. Matches are set to begin at 1:30 p.m.

Playing in the top position, freshman Claire Carter downed Erin Smith in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, while 78th-ranked senior Kristina Kraszewski took Courtney Perkins to three sets before winning in the No. 2 position, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. Sophomore Darija Klaic lost in the No. 3 slot to Katy Smith, 7-5, 6-4, while junior Ilona Kordonskaya defeated Samantha Kluger, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 position. Playing in the No. 5 slot, 43rd-ranked freshman Erin Hoe handled Lisa Bessman, 6-1, 6-1, while junior Erin Boisclair stopped Yenny Njoo, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot.

In doubles competition playing in the No. 1 position, Carter teamed up with Kordonskaya to shut down Janna Jusupovic and Amy Juppenlatz, 8-1. In the No. 2 slot, Klaic and Kraszewski downed Perkins and Erin Smith, 8-0, while sophomore Amy Allen teamed up with Hoe to stop Bessman and Njoo, 8-2.
