Sun Devils Rout Oregon, 99-72

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Awvee Storey scored 23 points to lead six players indouble figures as Arizona State opened the second half with a 21-4 run to blowout Oregon 99-72 Sunday.

Arizona State (10-10, 2-7) shot a season-high 62 percent and completed animprobable road sweep with its most lopsided defeat of Oregon since a 40-pointwin in Tempe on Jan. 5, 1981.

The Sun Devils snapped out of an 0-7 start to the conference season with a73-58 win at Oregon State on Thursday night.

Freddie Jones scored 14 to lead Oregon (12-7, 3-6), which was coming off itsbest performance of the season in a 79-67 win over No. 7 Arizona. The Ducksendured their worst home loss since falling to Arizona 92-60 on Jan. 28, 1993.

The Sun Devils led 48-38 at halftime, then effectively ended the game earlyin the second half. Chad Prewitt, who had been slowed by a sprained rightankle, hit three straight baskets, including a 3-pointer.

Donnell Knight then intercepted a pass, converted a layup and got fouled.His free throw capped a 14-2 run and made it 69-42 with just under 15 minutesremaining.

Alton Mason scored 17 points, and Prewitt and Tommy Smith each had 15 forthe Sun Devils. Storey added 12 rebounds.

The Ducks, who had been one of the best 3-point shooting teams in thePac-10, made just 4 of 22 after a 2-for-14 effort against Arizona.

Oregon's inside offense disappeared when forward Julius Hicks, playing on asprained right ankle, left the game after hurting it again less than eightminutes in. Hicks had seven of Oregon's first 13 points, but didn't scoreagain.

Trailing 15-12, the Sun Devils scored 21 of the next 29 points. Smith gotsix quick points, and Prewitt hit two consecutive shots. A driving layup byShawn Redhage put Arizona State up 33-23.

Oregon, which had held Arizona to a season-low 35 percent shooting, suddenlycouldn't stop anyone. Brad Nahra, who had been averaging just 1.1 points, madea difficult layup and hit a 3-pointer. Mason's running hook pushed the lead to48-36.

Oregon cut it to 10 just before the half on a fadeaway jumper by LukeJackson.
