Field Events Lead Bruins At NAU Indoor Track And Field Meet

Last weekend (Feb. 3), UCLA throwers led the Bruins at the Northern ArizonaIndoor T & F Invitational and junior Elaine Canchola placed first in the milerun at the Wolf Pack Indoor Invite in Reno, NV.
At Flagstaff, AZ, the women?s and men?s field events paced the Bruins. Inwomen?s competition -- in the pole vault, junior Tracy O?Hara was second(13-7.25, season-best, NCAA automatic qualifier), in the weight throw, seniorChristina Tolson was second (65-9.75, NCAA automatic) and sophomore Cari Soongwas third (63-4.25, NCAA provisional qualifier) and in the shot put, Tolson wassecond (53-4.25, NCAA automatic).
In men?s competition at NAU ? in the long jump, freshman Oliver Jackson wasthird (23-11), in the pole vault, senior Steve Michels was second (16-6.75) andsophomore Jared Drake was third (16-6.75), in the weight throw, freshman DanAmes was first (63-4.25, NCAA provisional) and junior Scott Moser was second(62-1) and in the shot put, Ames was second (59-2.25, NCAA provisional),sophomore Scott Wiegand was third (58-7.25, NCAA provisional), Moser was fourth( 58-6, NCAA provisional) and sophomore Jack Clamon was fifth (58-2.50, NCAAprovisional).
At Reno, Canchola placed first in the mile (4:51.92). Other top women?sfinishers were ?- in the 800m, sophomore Jessica Marr was third (2:13.81), inthe high jump, senior Jennifer Berman tied for third (5-3.75) with seniorteammate Heather Newlin and in the long jump, junior Bunmi Ogunleye was third(19-4).
In men?s competition at Reno, senior Paul Muite placed third (4:15.69) inthe mile.
Looking ahead, the Bruins will send several women?s and men?s runners to anindoor meet at Iowa State this weekend (Feb. 9-10). UCLA was going to compete atthe Powerade Indoor Invitational Feb. 11 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles,but the meet was cancelled.
