Oregon State Wrestlers Ranked No. 15

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State dropped two spots to No. 15 in this week's National Wrestling Coaches Association/The Mat.com national poll, which was released Wednesday. The Beavers (9-6 overall, 5-2 Pacific-10) lost twice last week, 35-6 at No. 2 Oklahoma State and 32-11 at No. 6 Oklahoma.
This weekend, OSU travels to No. 17 Fresno State for a non-league dual on Friday night, then visits Cal State-Bakersfield on Saturday afternoon and Cal State-Fullerton on Saturday night. Oregon State wraps up the dual meet schedule next Wednesday, Feb. 14, when it hosts Oregon in the season's second Civil War, sponsored by Northwest Dodge Dealers.
Five Beavers are in the individual national rankings this week. OSU 157-pounder Eric Jorgensen, who has won his last seven matches to improve to 25-5, remained No. 6 in the Amateur Wrestling News rankings and No. 7 in the InterMat rankings.
OSU heavyweight Jason Cooley, who beat a pair of nationally-ranked opponents last week to improve to 19-5, went up two spots to No. 9 in the AWN rankings and remained No. 8 in the IM rankings. Beaver 174-pounder Nathan Coy, now 26-7 on the season, climbed one spot to No. 7 on AWN's list and one spot to No. 9 on IM's list.
Oregon State 125-pounder Nathan Navarro, idle last week and now 17-8 this season, moved up one place to No. 8 in AWN's rankings and stayed at No. 8 in IM's rankings. Beaver 133-pounder Ben Richards, 14-10 with a team-high 4 pins, is still No. 18 on IM's list.
OSU has seven wrestlers in the latest Pacific-10 rankings, which include four wrestlers at each weight. Beavers ranked first are Jorgensen at 157 pounds, Jed Pennell at 165 pounds and Coy at 174 pounds, ranked second are Navarro at 125 pounds and Shane Cunanan at 141 pounds, ranked third are Richards at 133 pounds and Cooley at heavyweight.
The Pacific-10 Championships will be held at Oregon on Feb. 25-26.
