Soccer Signs Highly-Touted Class.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- First year head soccer coach Ray Leone announced Wednesday that five student-athletes have officially declared their commitment to attend Arizona State and play for the Sun Devil soccer program next Fall.

Among the student-athletes, who will join nine returning ASU starters, are four players with Olympic Development Program experience and one of the nation's top goalkeepers. All five student-athlete's hail from different states, including Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Texas and Virginia.

'I am very pleased with this incoming freshman class,' said Leone. 'I believe they will all be major contributors to the Sun Devil soccer program. This is a very talented class and they fit into our plans of building Arizona State University soccer into a national contender.'

In alphabetical order the student-athletes are:

Kelly Fitzgerald



Oak Hill, Virginia (Oakton HS)

Member of the Olympic Development Program ... Region I team member the past four years ... 1999 U-16 National team training camp ... captain of the five-time Virginia state champions Chantilly Hotspurs ... earned All-Met second team honors in 1998 ... was a second-team all-region selection in 1998 ... first-team all-district performer ... all-district tournament member. 'Kelly is a confident goalkeeper, as well as a quick shot stopper with excellent communication skills.'

Marlina Fletcher



Phoenix, Arizona (Marcos De Niza HS)

Division 5A second-team all-state accolades in 2000 ... honorable mention all-state in 1999 ... first-team Central Valley All-Region in 1999 and 2000 ... played for the three-time state champions Crossfire Soccer Club from 1997-99. 'Marlina is a strong player with a dominating presence.'

Stephanie Peel



Plano, Texas (Plano East HS)

Member of the Olympic Development Program ... U.S. National team pool from 1997-99 ... played for both the Texas Longhorns and Image Soccer Clubs ... second-team all-district selection in 1999. 'Stephanie is a strong, technical forward with tremendous speed.'

Shawn Reynolds



West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West HS)

Member of the Olympic Development Program ... 1999 U.S. National team pool ... played for the Ohio Dynamo Soccer Club ... Greater Miami Conference all-city team choice in 1999 ... 1999 high school state champions. 'Shawn is a solid defender with excellent vision. She has great distributions skills and possesses a lot of composure.'

Brittany Wilson



Castle Rock, Colorado (Douglas County HS)

Member of the Olympic Development Program ... Region IV team member ... member of the six-time Colorado State Cup champion team ... was a first-team all-conference selection. 'Brittany is good player in the air with a very effective service.'
