Vontoure Dismissed from Football Team

Feb. 7, 2001

Seattle - Washington junior cornerback Anthony Vontoure will not return to the Husky football team head coach Rick Neuheisel announced today.

'He has been dismissed from our football team,' Neuheisel said. 'It is in his best interest and focus on other things going on his life. He is still on scholarship. We wish him well. He is going to graduate and focus on maybe an NFL career.'

Vontoure appeared in 24 games over the past three seasons, starting 15 times. Vontoure started in all nine regular-season games he appeared in as a sophomore in 1999. He intercepted six passes that season to lead the Husky defense.

Last year Vontoure was credited with 26 tackles and seven pass defenses.
