Top Ranked Women's Tennis Blanks Fresno State, 7-0

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 1 ranked Stanford women's tennis team swept No. 37 Fresno State 7-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The win improves the Cardinal's record to 6-0 (3-0 in the Pac-10), while the Bulldogs fall to 2-1 on the season.

Stanford won all six singles matches, led by sophomore Laura Granville's (Chicago, IL) 6-4, 6-3 win over Kim Niggemeyer. Granville has now won 55 straight matches, dating back to last season and is two wins from tying the all-time Stanford record set by Patty Fendick-McCain (1984-87) with 57 consecutive wins.

At No. 2 singles, Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL) defeated Liesl Fichtbauer 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 and Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV) also won her No. 3 singles match over Simone Jardim 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.

Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ), Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ) and Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) all won their matches in straight sets. Barnikow, a freshman, was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Ewa Grusiecka. At the No. 5 spot, Tokuda won 6-4, 6-2 over Kelly Ramirez and Anderson yielded just two points, winning her match 6-0, 6-2.

The Cardinal won the doubles point by taking the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Barnikow and Kalvaria improved their overall record to an impressive 17-1 with an 8-2 win over the Bulldogs' team of Niggemeyer and Jardim. At the No. 2 spot, Granville and Lastra shutout Chantel Wiggins and Grusiecka 8-0. Fresno State's lone win of the day came when Fichtbauer and Courtney Jantz defeated Anderson and Tokuda 8-4.

Stanford travels to Madison, Wisconsin next week to compete in the National Team Indoors Feb. 15-18.
