No.12 Oregon Softball Defeats No. 24 Utah

Tempe, Ariz. - The No. 20 University of Oregon softball team improved to 2-0 at the Fiesta Bowl Softball Tournament, defeating No. 24 Utah, 4-1, in its second game Friday. Oregon is 6-2 overall.
'We came out and did what we needed to do,' Oregon head coach Rick Gamez said. 'We had to learn to be mentally tough and I'm proud of our team for the way they played today.'
Junior pitcher Connie McMurren picked up her third win of the season to improve to 3-0. McMurren had 10 strike outs in six innings pitched to bring her career total to 273 - fourth all-time at Oregon.
Offensively, the Ducks were led by sophomore Lisa Wangler, who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Wangler is 14-for-27 (.518) on the season and has a team-leading nine runs scored.
Sophomore Andrea Vidlund had her first home run of the season - a solo shot in the fourth inning. Vidlund now has two career home runs.
Oregon resumes play tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. against No. 12 Nebraska. The Ducks then take on Massachusetts at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be played at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix.
