Softball Opens Fiesta Bowl Tourney With a 2-0 Win

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The No. 20 University of Oregon softball team needed just 5 innings to get its first victory of the Fiesta Bowl Softball Tournament Friday afternoon. The Ducks (5-2) cruised to a 8-0 win over Texas Tech (0-2) at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix, Az.
Sophomore transfer Lisa Wangler got her second win of the season to improve to 2-0. Wangler allowed just three hits in five innings of pitch and has not given up a run this season. Offensively, Wangler kept on par with her .500 average going 2-4 with 2 runs scored.
'I thought we came out really strong mentally. We knew if we could come out and be prepared mentally this is the type of softball we could play,' Oregon softball head coach Rick Gamez said.
Junior Holly Ray hit her third home run of the season and now has 12 career home runs. Ray scored two runs and had two runs batted in.
Freshman Kate Peterson of Sandy Utah had Oregon's other home-run, her first career homer.
Sophomore Elisa Louse improved her hitting streak to 7 games going 2-3 with 1 run scored. Louse has had a hit in all of Oregon's games this season, and has had 2 hits in 4 of Oregon's last 5 games. Louse is hitting .578 for the season
Oregon plays No. 25 Utah at 4:30 on Friday at the Farrington Softball Stadium in Tempe Az.
