Barton Leads ASU Contingent in Final Day of Cyclone Classic

AMES, Iowa -- A small group of Sun Devils represented Arizona State track and field in the final day of the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa Saturday, led by freshman Jason Barton's sixth-place finish in the 400m. Barton turned in a season-best time of 47.42 and finished sixth among 80 competitors.
Also taking to the track Saturday were ASU men distance runners, led by sophomore Ron Buchanan's all-time personal best of 14:33.79 in the 5000m to place 15th. Buchanan, competing in his first indoor season as a Sun Devil, improved upon his outdoor best time of 14:33.86 set last season.
Two Sun Devils competed in the men's 800m, with junior Cheyne Jones finishing 27th in a time of 1:53.36 and senior David Burke placing 49th in 1:54.92. Redshirt-freshman Dan Maher and junior Phillip Prince ran in the men's mile, finishing 19th and 24th in times of 4:10.49 and 4:11.25, respectively.
Next up for ASU, the Sun Devils will return to Flagstaff for a double dual with Arizona and Northern Arizona, Friday, Feb. 16.
