UCLA Loses To USC 61-56

Los Angeles, Calif. - The USC Women's Basketball team defended its homecourt Saturday afternoon as it defeated the UCLA Bruins 61-56 before 2136at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. With the win, the Women of Troy snap atwo-game losing streak and improve to 4-6 in the Pac-10, 9-11 overall.UCLA suffers its fifth loss in a row to fall to 2-8 in the Pac-10, 3-18overall.

The Bruins came out strong in the first half, taking a 13-6 (12:52) leadover the Trojans. However, USC fought back and a jumper by senior DeniseWoods at the 8 minute mark regained the lead for the Women of Troy (14-13).The Trojans never looked back, going on a 10-0 run to go up 28-17 (3:28).USC held a eight-point advantage at the break (34-26).

Refreshed from the break, the Bruins came out strong, holding USC scorelessin the first three minutes of the game. The Women of Troy regained theircomposure and went on a 10-2 run, led by two quick shots by Woods to go up47-36 (12:23). UCLA's Michelle Greco stopped the Trojans' run with athree-pointer and then led the Bruins on a 14-3 run of their own to get thedeficit down to only two points, 52-50, with four minutes remaining.However, that was as close as UCLA got as USC withstood the run and hitkey free throws in the final minutes to defeat the Bruins and earn a splitin this year's rivalry.

Three different players scored in double figures for the Women of Troy.Junior Tiffany Elmore and Woods each had 13 points, while senior TasharaCarter added ten. The Bruins were led by Greco, who finished with agame-high 26 points.
