No. 19 Oregon Falls 25-10 To No. 17 Oregon State
Feb. 14, 2001
Corvallis - The No. 19 University of Oregon wrestling team (7-8 overall, 4-4 Pac-10) finished the regular season with a 25-10 loss to No. 17 Oregon State (12-7, 8-2) in front of 1,764 fans at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis Wednesday. The Ducks will now focus on the Pac-10 Championships, which will take place at McArthur Court in Eugene, Feb. 25-26.
'We've got to stay focused on the Pac-10 Championships,' Oregon head coach Chuck Kearney said. 'Our goal all along has been to win the Championships on our home court.'
Perhaps the highlight of the championships will be in the heavyweight division where Oregon sophomore Eric Webb has excelled all season. Webb was unable to wrestle Jason Cooley Wednesday evening because of a minor injury, but has defeated Cooley twice this season. Oregon's forfeit at heavyweight gave the Beavers an early 6-0 lead.
But the six points weren't the difference as Oregon State went on to win six of the 10 weight classes. Oregon won the first bout of the night (197) as Chael Sonnen defeated Jason Lovell 16-6. The Beavers won the next six competitions to pull away. Leif Williams ended the rally with a 14-12 overtime decision over Jake Huffman at 165. Senior All-American Doug Lee picked up the Ducks' only other win, a 6-2 decision against Isaac Weber at 184.
