UCLA Gymnasts Maintain No. 1 National Ranking

The UCLA women's gymnastics team remained atop the national rankings for the fifth consecutive week with a season average of 197.006. Alabama is No. 2 with a 196.736 average, followed by Utah (196.621), Georgia (196.282) and Stanford (196.242).
The Bruins boosted their season average with a school and Pac-10 record 198.25 at Oregon State last Friday. The score was the highest by any team in the nation this year.
In addition to their No. 1 ranking for team total, the Bruins hold the No. 1 position on bars (49.375) and floor (49.506) and are third on vault (49.081) and beam (49.044).
In the individual rankings, UCLA boasts the top three all-arounders for the second consecutive week. This week, the three Bruins have flip-flopped positions, with Onnie Willis No. 1 (39.637 average), Jamie Dantzscher No. 2 (39.55) and Mohini Bhardwaj No. 3 (39.525). Also ranked in the Top 15 are No. 7 Kristin Parker (39.356) and No. 15 Kristen Maloney (39.225).
UCLA is also 1-2-3 on floor with Bhardwaj No. 1 (9.969), Dantzscher No. 2 (9.937) and Maloney and Yvonne Tousek tied for No. 3 (9.925). Three other Bruins are ranked in the Top 25 on floor - Willis at No. 11 (9.9), Parker at No. 13 (9.887) and Jeanette Antolin at No. 23 (9.875).
A 49.7 team performance on beam at Oregon State helped propel several Bruins into the beam rankings. Parker is third nationally with a 9.881 average, followed by 10th-ranked Willis (9.85), 12th-ranked Bhardwaj (9.844), 20th-ranked Maloney (9.821) and 25th-ranked Malia Jones (9.817).
Dantzscher remains No. 1 on the uneven bars with an average of 9.967. Bhardwaj ranks No. 5 with a 9.915 average, and Doni Thompson is 22nd with a 9.862 average.
On vault, Dantzscher is UCLA's only ranked athlete, checking in at No. 13 with an average of 9.842.
The Bruins do not compete until Mar. 4 when they host Cal, Utah State and UC Santa Barbara in the Bruin Classic at 2:00 pm.
