#68 Men's Tennis Looks To Keep Winning Streak Rolling Along

The No. 68-ranked Ducks look to build on their three-match winning streak this weekend. On Friday, Oregon will face the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (2-5), who come into Eugene after going 1-3 in their matches last weekend. The Gauchos lost to Santa Clara 4-3, defeated St. Mary's 5-2, and lost to No. 25-ranked California, 4-2. On Sunday the Ducks dive back into Pac-10 play against the No.6-ranked Washington Huskies (7-4). Washington competed in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors last week. The Huskies pulled off two huge upsets, defeating then No. 4-ranked Georgia, 4-3, on Thursday, and upending No. 8 Florida, 4-1 on Saturday.


Oregon's No. 1 doubles duo of senior David Becker and freshman Martin Pawlowski (5-4) are currently ranked No. 45 according to Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. The Ducks' tandem split matches this weekend, falling to New Mexico State and winning versus Pacific.


The last meeting between Oregon and UC Santa Barbara was on April 26, 2000 in Eugene. The Ducks came out on top, 5-2, behind wins from Teig and Becker. The Ducks faced the Huskies twice last season, with Washington winning both matches. In the first meeting, on April 2, 2000 in Seattle, the Huskies downed Oregon 4-3, despite a big win from Teig. Later in the month, Washington traveled to Eugene to defeat the Ducks again, 5-2 on April 22, 2000.


The Ducks had a tremendous weekend, defeating two higher-ranked oppenents. On Friday, Oregon upended No. 54 New Mexico State, 5-2 and No. 64 Pacific, 5-2, on Sunday. Sophomore Oded Teig (14-8) is currently on a hot streak, winning his last three matches in a row, at the No. 1 singles position.
