Men's Golf Leading John Burns Intercollegiate After Round One

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Stanford men's golf team is in first place after one round of the John Burns Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Hawaii at Leleihua Golf Course. The Cardinal shot a 275, 13 under par, and has a three-stroke lead over Auburn (278). Rounding out the top five of the 19-team tournament is New Mexico (282), Arizona (283) and Colorado State (284).

Three Stanford golfers finished round one under par with the highest Cardinal at +3. Senior Alex Aragon (Torrey Pines, CA) is tied for the lead after posting a career-best six-under par 66 in the first round. Aragon shot a pair of 33s on the front nine and the back nine to find himself tied with New Mexico's Michael Letzig. Teammate Jimmy Lee (Coral Springs, FL) is just one stroke behind them in third place with a 67. Junior Philip Rowe (Cornwall, UK) recorded a 68 (-4), good for a fifth place finish after the first round. Jim Seki (Honolulu, HI) carded a 74, shooting 37s on the front and back nine, while Ron Won (Irvine, CA) had a 75 in the opening round.

The three-day, 72-hole tournament continues on Thursday. Second round results from Wednesday will be available on Thursday.
