During the Pacific-10 Conference Swimming Championships, diaries from two Cougars will be featured each day.
Tatiana Maristany is a freshman from Mexico City, Mexico. She swims the backstroke and freestyle events for the Cougars. Earlier this year, Maristany traveled to Torreon, Mexico, to compete in the Mexican National Swimming Championships. There, Maristany earned three national titles, claiming victory the 200-meter backstroke, 200-meter freestyle relay and 400-meter medley relay. In addition, her 400 medley team established a Mexican national record at the meet.
Freshman Tatiana Maristany (2/19/01): I can't believe we are leaving for Pac-10's already. The big meet we've been waiting for is finally around the corner. It seems like yesterdaywe walked into Gibb Pool and the Pac-10's countdown was about a million daysaway. Now we are about to be face to face with our goals, and we've workedhard to see those goals achieved. Nothing can stop us now. Everyone is so excited, we really can't help it. Today we got our shirts, hat and championship caps. Just getting new stuff gives me goose bumps because of what it represents: BIG MEET and TIME TO SWIM FAST.
At our team meeting today we really compromised by writing in theboard what we believed can happen in Pac 10's. I think everyone got psychedjust to see on the board that all of us are thinking alike and that we reallybelieve we can go faster than ever before (and much more).I've been packing for the last hour and every single item I packgets me so excited. I'm sure everyone's feeling the same right now. Itsgoing to be hard to fall asleep but we have to rest, big traveling daytomorrow.
The team has worked hard for this and now is or time to shinebig!!
Also featured will be a diary from WSU's Melissa Hubley:
Melissa Hubley is a sophomore from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. Last year at the Pac-10 Championships in her freshman season, Hubley shattered the WSU record for the 200 butterfly by nearly six seconds and moved herself into third place on the school's all time list for the 100 butterfly. This season, she has already established an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 200 butterfly.
