RENO, Nev. -- The University of Oregon men's track and field team makes its annual trek to the Mountain Pacific Championships this weekend, scheduled for the University of Northern Arizona's SkyDome, Fri.-Sat., Feb. 23-24.

Tentative UO men's entries include:

  • 60 Hurdles: Terry Ellis, Jake Garlick, Billy Pappas
  • 400: Jake Garlick, Brandon Holliday
  • 800: Ross Krempley
  • High Jump: Jason Boness, Kyley Johnson, Jake Horner
  • Pole Vault: Trevor Woods, Cody Howell, Jason Slye
  • Long Jump: Santiago Lorenzo, Foluso Akinradewo, Billy Pappas
  • Triple Jump: Foluso Akinradewo
  • Shot Put: Rian Ingrim, James March
  • Weight Throw: Adam Kriz
  • 4x400 Relay

    The team returns to action after competing at the Holiday Inn Invite in Reno last Saturday, Feb. 17. Sophomores Terry Ellis and Adam Kriz paced the 16-Duck contingent with impressive season bests in the 55 hurdles (first, 7.53) and weight throw (third, 60-4). Other strong placings came from junior Billy Pappas (55 hurdles, third, 7.75), freshman Jake Garlick (400, third, 49.34), junior Ross Krempley (800, fourth, 1:54.29), senior Rian Ingrim (shot put, sixth, 55-7 3/4), junior Cody Howell (pole vault, fifth, 16-4 3/4), sophomore Jason Boness (high jump, second, 6-11), senior Kyley Johnson (high jump, third, 6-9), sophomore Foluso Akinradewo (triple jump, first, 49-5), and the 4x400 relay of Garlick, Brandon Holliday, Jake Horner and Krempley (first, 3:16.39).

    Afterwards, the meet was unofficially scored as a team competition, including club teams, through based on the top eight places and a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring method. The scaled-back Duck unit finished second with 85 points, and only two points from the win.

    In five weeks of competition, 15 Duck individuals have combined for 22 qualifying marks in 10 out of a possible 13 individual events for this weekend's meet (Note: there were no qualifying standard for the 5,000). The UO women, who will not attend the contest this weekend, saw 10 Ducks combine for 12 qualifying marks in 10 events.

    On the NCAA provisional lists, three Ducks have secured qualifying marks already this season - sophomore Jason Hartmann (men's 5,000, 14:05.72), senior Katie Crabb (women's mile, 4:46.38) and junior Holly Speight (women's pole vault, 12-6). Several of those individuals may compete again the next two weekends in final attempts at improvements on the national qualifying lists.
