Women's Swimming Opens Strong In Pac-10s.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - USC had six different swimmers make finals appearances to highlight the Trojans' efforts on the first day of the 2001 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash., on Thursday (Feb. 22).

Sophomore Asa Sandlund (4:49.62), senior Corrie Murphy (4:50.13), freshman Melissa Deary (4:53.54) and junior Katie Meyer (4:54.56) finished fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 500 free.

Sophomore Jennifer Parmenter took fifth in the 200 IM (2:02.32) while sophomore Michala Kwasny was sixth in 2:02.53.

USC took fourth in both the 200 free relay (1:33.85) and the 400 medley relay (3:41.60).

The meet continues Friday and Saturday. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. each day and finals start at 6 p.m.
