Ninth-Ranked ASU Women's Tennis Sneaks By No. 23 Arizona, 4-3

TEMPE, Ariz. - The ninth-ranked Arizona State (7-1, 3-1) women's tennis team increased their winning streak to six after defeating No. 23 in-state rival Arizona (3-3) in Tucson, 4-3.

In doubles play, ASU earned its team point by winning two of the three matches. ASU's Celena McCoury/Mhairi Brown combo defeated UA's Michelle Gough and Sophie Regnier, 8-4, on the No. 1 court, and Megan Yeats and Cindy Sureephong shut out the Wildcats' Brooke Taylor/Perrine Pernin tandem, 8-0, on the No. 3 court.

In singles action, ASU split the matches, winning on the No. 1, 5, and 6 courts. Freshman Cindy Sureephong remained undefeated in dual play (7-0) with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Arizona's Brooke Taylor on the No. 6 court. ASU's Adria Engel also defeated UA's Michelle Gough on the No. 1 court to improve her record to 6-2 in dual play.

The Devils will host the No. 49-ranked University of Tulane this Monday at 1:30 p.m. (MST) at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
