Men's Tennis Fights, Falls to No. 6 Washington

Feb. 25, 2001

Eugene, Ore. - The University of Oregon men's tennis team snapped their four match winning streak Sunday, losing to Washington by a score of 6-1. With the loss, the Ducks fall to 4-5 on the season (0-3 Pac-10).

Oregon took two of three doubles matches from its opponent, in effect earning what would be its only point of the contest. The tandem of Jason Menke and Buck Mink, playing at the No. 2 spot, defeated Dillon Ruby and Ari Strasberg, 9-7, while Oded Teig and Chris King teamed up to earn a 9-8 victory over Matt Hanlin and Andrej Bizjak.

The Ducks were held winless in each of the six singles matches. David Becker and Greg Durbourdieu, playing at the No. 4 and 6 spots, forced a third set from their opponents, but were unable to pick up a point in their respective matches.

'We played lots of close sets,' said head coach Chris Russell. 'There were certain matches that could have been closer if we had made better decisions. We didn't have quite the detail that we needed to in the third sets. But overall, it was a good effort.'

Oregon will face Portland on Saturday, March 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene.
