During the Pacific-10 Conference Swimming Championships, diaries from two Cougars will be featured each day.

Tatiana Maristany

Tatiana Maristany is a freshman from Mexico City, Mexico. She swims the backstroke and freestyle events for the Cougars. Earlier this year, Maristany traveled to Torreon, Mexico, to compete in the Mexican National Swimming Championships. There, Maristany earned three national titles, claiming victory the 200-meter backstroke, 200-meter freestyle relay and 400-meter medley relay. In addition, her 400 medley team established a Mexican national record at the meet.

Maristany (2/22/01):Today was our first day. We were all really nervous. This morning Becca (Cohen) swam her best time for the season in the 500 free. Jill (Olson) and Semah (Zavareh) did a pretty good job too. Carrie (Breed), Rachelle (Carano) and Andree-Anne (LeRoy) swam the 200 IM and Andree-Anne broke the school record both in the morning and again at night. It was a great race to watch. Also the 50 free was fun to watch and cheer for. Sara (Schmied) swam her best time of the season. Lindsay (Henahan) was close, but her time got her to swim again at night. Taryn (Ternent) had a really strong swim, broke the school record, and finished in the top eight.

The relays were so much fun too. In the 200 free relay, Taryn, Rachel (Dong), Lindsay, and Rachelle swam really fast and broke the school record. It felt great! The 400 medley relay was also fast. Relays are always exciting to watch, and really get the team pumped up.

Everyone was really excited and happy. The team had a great day and we are ahead of our rival, the Huskies. Go Cougs!!
