Shantay Legans Diary

BERKELEY - What Sean Lampley did this weekend was just awesome. To set a record for scoring is a very hard thing to do. Beating out Lamond Murray and Kevin Johnson is a real accomplishment. They both went on to the pros and had good careers. All the players are real happy for Sean and are proud to have been part of helping him set the record. It's going to be a long time before someone else will break that record I bet. It was also cool that he was able to get the record in front of the home crowd. All the fans that came out to both the Thursday Washington game and the WSU game Saturday were a big part of the excitement, record and wins.

Washington is struggling right now, but it would have been an easy game to let down, so I'm glad we took care of business Thursday. I didn't shoot that well, but no one in the program wanted to lose that game.

WSU has some great shooters. The report on them is that they are not a good 3-point shooting team, but who's kidding who? They were throwing them down. I didn't shoot much in that game, but it wasn't really needed. Lampley totally dominated both games and is big time.

We've got some hard practices ahead this week and I know they will be intense and focused. Thanks to the last two games, we're going to LA with some confidence and momentum. We want to go down to the LA schools and play our 'A' game. Both schools have some talented players at key positions, and my job will be containing Earl Watson at UCLA and Brandon Granville at USC, two very good point guards.

UCLA is playing real well right now and although we beat them up here, it's going to be a very hard-fought game for us. I believe we can pull it off as long as we play all 40 minutes. As for USC, we lost to them already this year and none of us want to lose twice. We will be up and ready for both games. We need to play intense defense in both games. We swept them down there last year and I think we can do it again this year, if we play like I know we can.

Hope to see big crowds when we get back from LA for the Arizonas!! GO BEARS!!!!
