Feb. 27, 2001

TEMPE, Ariz. -- After a career-best performance that paced Arizona State's women's gymnastics team to a school record-tying finish at the UNO's Classic, Feb. 23, junior Laura Moon was named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week Tuesday.

Moon, a Scottsdale, Ariz., native who transferred to ASU after two MVP seasons at the University of Maryland, set a career-high 39.525 in the all-around as the Sun Devils tied an ASU record with a meet-winning 197.125 total.

Although she was five-hundredths (0.05) short of matching the ASU record in the all-around, Moon earned ASU's second-ever 10.0 score on the uneven bars, its 14th perfect score overall. Led by that score, ASU established a school-record 49.375 on bars.

Moon, who has a 9.829 average on the apparatus, is tied for ninth on the national bars rankings, and is in a three-way tie for 23rd on the balance beam.

Moon and the rest of the No. 9 Sun Devils will face-off against No. 22 Arizona in Tucson, Ariz., Friday, March 2.
