Washington Men's Swimmers Break Two School Records at Pac-10 Championships

March 1, 2001

(LONG BEACH, CALIF.) - - The University of Washington's Men's swimming relay teams broke school records in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay at the 2001 Pac-10 Conference Championships at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.

The team of David Molianen (Renton, Wash), Francis Tam (Santa Clara, Calif), Justin Adrian (Bremerton, Wash), and Jamie Stone (Lake Stevens, Wash) broke the school record of 3:20.90 in the 400-yard medley relay by swimming a US Swimming Senior National standard time of 3:19.27. The team finished the relay in sixth place. Tam is the only remaining member of the team that set the previous school record at the Pac-10 championships in 1999

In the 200-yard freestyle relay the Huskies team of Stone, Tim Collins (Vancouver, Wash), Molianen, and Tam broke the previous school record of 1:22.34 by swimming a 1:22.29. Stone and Tam were on the team that set the previous record at the Pac-10 championships in 1999. Like the 400-yard medley team the 200-yard freestyle team claimed sixth place.

The men had two consolation finalists in the 200-yard individual medley. Francis Tam finished in ninth place by swimming a 1:49.47 and Luke Ekhoff (Portland, Ore) finished in 10th place by swimming a 1:49.49. Both of these times were US Swimming Senior National standard times.

In the 500-yard freestyle the Huskies had three qualifiers in the bonus finals. Josh Hickman (Blaine, Wash) placed 19th with a time of 4:33.51. John Lyssand (Gig Harbor, Wash) placed 20th with a time of 4:36.91. Finally, Jesse Nitz (Puyallup, Wash) placed 21st with a time of 4:38.25.
