UW Women's Tennis Team Begins Outdoor Campaign Sunday vs. WSU

March 2, 2001

SEATTLE - The 17th-ranked Washington women's tennis team begins the outdoor portion of its 2001 season this weekend at home. The Huskies host 53rd-ranked Washington State on Sunday, March 4 at noon on the Quillian Courts located in the UW athletics complex.

The Huskies previously scheduled outdoor opener against No. 47 Brigham Young was moved from Friday to Monday, March 5 at noon to accommodate the Cougars' travel. BYU was unable to arrive in Seattle until Friday due to the backup of flights at SeaTac Airport caused by Wednesday's earthquake.

Washington features No. 1 singles standout Kristina Kraszewski (Torrance, Calif.), a senior who is listed No. 10 in the national individual rankings. Kraszewski will have her hands full this week against a pair of highly ranked opponents. On Sunday she faces No. 41 Erica Perkins of Washington State and Monday she squares off with No. 42 Jodi Richardson of BYU.

Two other Huskies also drew lofty national singles rankings, No. 21 Claire Carter (Freshman/Nottingham, England) and No. 51 Darija Klaic (Sophomore/Zupanja, Croatia).

The Huskies are slated to play their next two matches at home. They entertain Oregon on March 9 at 1:30 p.m. before hosting No. 3 Duke on March 17 at noon.
