March 5, 2001
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State University's Felicia Ragland was named the Pacific-10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 26-Mar. 4, announced Commissioner Tom Hansen on Monday.
Ragland, a 5-9 guard, averaged 22.0 points and 8.5 rebounds as OSU swept No. 22 Arizona State and Arizona for the first time since the 1996-97 season. On the week, the Tulare, CA, native shot 47-percent (17-of-36) from the field and 53-percent (8-of-15) from 3-point range to help the Beavers improve to 16-11 on the season and extend a five-game winning streak.
In last Saturday's 72-64 win over No. 22 Arizona State, Ragland scored a career-high 32 points on 12-of-19 shooting (63-percent) and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, notching her 500th career board in the contest. She buried 6-of-7 3-point shots and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor in her first five shot attempts, including three treys. In last Thursday's 67-66 victory over Arizona, Ragland added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds in Oregon State's first win against the Wildcats in nine meetings.
Ragland, a junior, leads the Pac-10 in scoring with 19.8 points per game and is averaging 21.8 points in Conference games, while her 7.2 rebounds per game rank fifth.
The Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the first of Ragland's career and Oregon State's 22nd Player of the Week award winner of all-time. Sophomore guard Nicole Funn was honored earlier this season (Dec. 4).
Oregon State wraps up regular season action against in-state rival, University of Oregon on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers and the Ducks are scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. in McArthur Court.
