Cougar Women Holding Off BYU, OSU at SJSU Invitational

SALINAS, Calif. --- Tasha Browner led Washington State with a 76 on Tuesday at the San Jose Spartan Invitational, being played at the par 72 Corral de Tierra Country Club.
Browner, a junior from Tarzana, Calif., is tied for 25th after posting a 151 over the first two rounds. Teammate Jennifer Dodd (Portland, Ore.) is four strokes behind Browner, and tied for 38th, after shooting a 78 in the second round.
The Cougars are 10th in the team standings, four strokes out of eighth place, where host San Jose State and Penn State are tied at 616. Washington State still leads West District rivals Brigham Young and Oregon State. BYU is eight strokes behind WSU in 12th place, while the Beavers are in 13th place and 10 strokes behind WSU.
Arizona State overcame New Mexico State at the top of the team leaderboard on the strength of Jimin Kang's five-under par 67. Kang also grabbed the individual lead from New Mexico State's Alena Sharp, who carded a second round 71 and dropped to second place.
The third and final round of the event begins Wednesday at 8 a.m.
