J Locklier Named Pac-10 Newcomer Of The Year

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ï¿½ Washington State junior center J Locklier hasbeen named the 2000-01 Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball FredHessler Award winner honoring the league's Newcomer of the Year.
For the ninth straight season, the Newcomer of the Year was selected bythe Pac-10 radio play-by-play announcers, and named in honor of the lateUCLA broadcaster.
Locklier, a 6-foot-10 center from Rock Hill, S.C., is averaging 9.4points and 6.0 rebounds, while shooting 47.2 percent from the field forthe Cougars (12-14 overall, 5-13 and tied for sixth in the Pac-10).
Locklier is the only Cougar to have started all 26 games this season.He's shooting 85-of-180 (.472) from the field and 75-of-111 (.676) fromthe free throw line to average 9.4 points per game. His team-leading 6.0rebounds per game rank 12th in the Pac-10. He's recorded 10 or morerebounds in three games this season, including a career-high 12 reboundsvs. Washington when he also added 16 points for his first double-double.
Locklier came to Washington State from Miami, Ohio, where he letteredfortwo season (1998-99) and was instrumental in leading the Red Hawks to aNCAA Sweet 16 appearance his sophomore year.
It's the second time a player from Washington State has been honored asPac-10 Newcomer of the Year.
