Women's Golf in Sixth After 36 Holes at Spartan Invitational

Salinas, CA - The Washington women's golf team matched its opening-round score, by shooting 299, but fell back one spot during the second round of play at San Jose State's Spartan Invitational at the Corral de Tierra Country Club. The Huskies were led Tuesday by junior Kelli Kamimura, who shot a 69 to jump nine spots and move into fifth place with a 36-hole score of 143.

Washington is 21 strokes behind tournament leader Arizona State, which fired a second round low score of 287 for a two-day total of 577. New Mexico State, which led after the first day of play, trails the Sun Devils by a single stroke. Washington is just one stroke behind fifth-place Tulsa and trails fourth-place Stanford by five shots.

Kamimura's score tied her low round for the season. Her 36-hole total of 143 is just five strokes behind tournament leader Jimin Kang of Arizona State. Kang fired a 5-under score of 67 on Tuesday to finish at 139. Washington freshman Lindsay Wagner, who led the Huskies after 18 holes, shot 75 to fall back to a tie for 14th place. Other Husky scores included a 76 by Elisha Au and 79s by Bianca Clark and Louise Friberg. Michele Grafos, who is competing as an individual, shot a 73.

The tournament concludes Wednesday with play beginning at 8 a.m.
