Henry Last Minute Cougar Addition to NCAA Indoor Track Champs
March 7, 2001
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State's Anson Henry had two days to be disappointed and less than one hour to pack.
Henry, a junior sprinter from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, was not on Monday's list of entrants to the NCAA Div. I Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships being held this Friday and Saturday, March 9-10, at the Randal Tyson Track Center at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Henry had missed the 60m dash cut by a mere one one-hundredths of a second.
Early Wednesday morning, as the Cougar coaches and athletes - Agneta Rosenblad, Benson Jones and Arend Watkins - were preparing the leave Pullman, head coach Rick Sloan received a call from the NCAA saying someone had dropped out of the 60m dash and Henry was invited to compete.
Henry takes a top time of 6.69 seconds (a school record) into the 60m dash preliminary heats set for 4 p.m. (PT) Friday. The final is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Saturday. At the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships last month, Henry finished second to Washington's Ja'Warren Hooker in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash.
The competitive schedule for all four Cougs in six events follows.
