Simpson Wins Bronze Medal at Yasar Dagu Wrestling Tournament in Turkey

ANKURA, Turkey -- Arizona State assistant wrestling coach Aaron Simpson won the bronze medal at 187.25 pounds at the Yasar Dagu Wrestling Tournament in Ankara, Turkey, Sunday, March 4.
Simpson, a two-time All-American at ASU, was one of three medal winners in the tournament, including gold medalist Sammie Henson at 119 pounds. Complete results were not available for the final rounds.
Simpson advanced out of his pool after the first day of competition, pinning his first opponent, Ezdogan of Turkey, before earning a 6-0 decision over Temirbayev from Kazakhstan.
In addition to his impressive collegiate wrestling resume, Simpson has achieved success at the international level as well. This past year he won the 2000 Sunkist Kids International Open title at 187 pounds and placed fourth at the 2000 U.S. Nationals.
Next up for Pac-10 Champion Arizona State wrestling squad is the 2001 NCAA Wrestling Championships March 15-17 hosted by the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Eight ASU wrestlers have qualified for nationals this season, one short of the school record number of qualifiers set three times previous (1985, 1987, 1990).
