No. 24 Oregon Softball Continues Tournament Action

The University of Oregon softball team, ranked No. 24 in the USA Today/NFCA poll this week, will continue preseason tournament play at the 15th annual National Invitational Softball Tournament in Sunnyvale, Calif.

Arizona State, the 2000 tournament will return to defend its title, but 12 other schools will compete for the championship this season. All 13 teams will participate in pool play Friday before bracket play on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, the championship game will be played at noon.

The Ducks will face Virginia Tech (noon), Miami-Ohio (2 p.m.) and Long Beach State (6 p.m.) on Friday at the Twin Creeks Sports Complex.

Sophomore transfer Lisa Wangler leads Oregon, hitting .444 on the season. The mark also places her eighth in the Pac-10. Wangler also leads the team in runs scored (25) and total bases (47).

Freshman pitcher Anissa Meashintubby is 2-1 heading into the weekend and has a team-leading ERA of 0.90. Sophomore Andrea Vidlund is 6-3 with a 2.88 ERA and a team-high 48 stirke outs.
