LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Kristee Porter and Michelle Greco combined for 57 points to lead the UCLA Bruins to a 93-61 win over the Washington State Cougars Thursday night in Pac-10 women's basketball action at Pauley Pavilion.
The loss dropped the Cougars to 11-16 overall and 6-11 in the Pac-10. UCLA improved to 5-23 overall and 4-13 in the conference.
In leading the Bruins to the win, Porter scored a career-high 32 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Greco added 25 points in addition to contributing nine rebounds and five assists.
Brittney Hawks led the Cougars with a double-double of her own with a season-high 20 points and 14 rebounds.
After taking a brief 3-2 lead just over a minute into the game, the Cougars fell victim to a deluge of Bruin buckets. Down by the single-point, UCLA would explode for a 28-3 run over a 6:38 span to take a 30-6 lead with 12:12 remaining in the first half. A three-pointer by Katie Nyseth was the only dent WSU made on the scoreboard during the Bruins' run.
WSU did manage to shave the UCLA's advantage to 15 at 41-26 with 2:45 remaining in the half and headed into halftime facing a 50-31 deficit. The Cougars would score the first bucket of the second half to get within 17 but that was as close as they would get for the remainder of the game.
In the first half, Porter recorded 18 points while Greco added 15 as UCLA opened up the contest by hitting 15 of its first 21 attempts including five from beyond the arc.
WSU concludes its season Saturday afternoon at USC. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. Pacific.
