USC Defeats Washington

SEATTLE (AP) - Southern California inched a little closer to earning a spotin the NCAA Tournament as Jeff Trepagnier scored 22 points and led the Trojansto an 85-56 victory over the Washington Huskies Thursday night.
The Trojans' last appearance in the tournament was in 1997, and they've madeit three times in the last 15 years.
The Trojans (20-9, 10-7 Pac-10) swept the season series with Washington, andhave won the last five meetings between the two teams.
Trepagnier had a lot success against the Huskies in 2000. In the Trojans'87-61 win over Washington on Jan. 6, he scored a career-high 28 points.
Brandon Granville scored 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. SamClancy had 16 points.
Washington (9-20, 3-14) has lost eight consecutive games. The Huskies alsolost starting center Marlon Shelton with a torn ligament in his left knee, aninjury he suffered while going for a rebound midway through the second half.
The Huskies reached 20 losses for the third time in school history. The lasttime was the 1993-94 season when they finished 5-22, coach Bob Bender's firstseason at Washington.
The Trojans jumped out to a 10-0 advantage, making five of their first sixfield goal attempts over the first 2:30 of the game. Shelton ended the run witha layup 10 seconds later.
USC continued to build on its lead, going up 40-20 before the Huskies cutinto the lead with a 9-0 run that was capped by Curtis Allen's breakawayreverse layup with 1:45 left in the half. The Trojans responded and rebuilttheir lead to 48-31 at the half.
