#1 Stanford Defeats #23 Arizona, 6-1

STANFORD, Calif. --- Top-ranked Stanford University improved to 5-0 in the Pacific-10 Conference with a 6-1 win over 23rd-ranked Arizona Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The Cardinal is 14-0 overall, while the Wildcats dropped to 5-4.
In singles play the Cardinal had little trouble, winning five of six matches in straight sets. Stanford's nationally top-ranked and ITA February Player of the Month Laura Granville (Chicago, IL/The Latin School) defeated Michelle Gough 6-2, 6-1, upping her dual match record to 12-1, 27-1 overall. Seventh-ranked Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL/Boca Raton Prep) cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Debbie Larocque and Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge HS) easily handled Laresa Marino winning her match 6-0, 6-3. Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson HS), who was leading her match 7-5, 3-0, was forced to retire as a result of an arm injury.
The Cardinal won all three double matches to capture the first point of the dual. The nation's top ranked duo, Barnikow and Kalvaria, improved their dual match record to 11-2, 23-3 overall. Stanford's No. 2 team of Granville and Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV/Reno HS) defeated Larocque and Marino 8-3 to extend their dual match unbeaten streak to twelve.
The Cardinal returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a noon match against Arizona State.
