Marc Briggs Places Fourth In 1-Meter Dive At NCAA Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Arizona State senior diver Marc Briggs placed fourth in the 1-meter dive at the first day of the NCAA Zone `E' Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash., Friday.
Briggs accumulated 330.80 points in the six-dive format to finish less than three points out of second-place. Arizona's Omar Ojeda won the event with a 358.60 performance, with Hawaii's Mike Gowdy taking second in 333.15 and Brigham Young's Justin Wilcock in third with 332.95. After Briggs there was a significant drop-off, with BYU's Aaron Russell earning fifth-place with 314 points.
Briggs was not the only Sun Devil to compete Friday. Junior Natalie Burgess grabbed 11th-place in the 3-meter dive with 439.55 points. Anna Tutunnikowa of BYU settled for 12th-place behind Burgess by a mere three-tenths of a point at 439.25 points.
Nicci Fusaro and Kellie Brennan of USC finished one-two in the event with scores of 519.95 and 508.9, respectively. Stanford's Erin Sones rounded out the top-three at 505.20.
