Stanford Women's Volleyball Announces 2001 Schedule

The Stanford Women's Volleyball program announced its 2001 schedule today which features non-conference games against Penn State, Texas, Long Beach State and Pacific.

Next year's schedule features 14 teams that made the 2000 NCAA tournament including eight teams that made it to the Sweet Sixteen. The Cardinal will play a total of 19 matches against the 14 opponents who went postseason last year.

Stanford will open the 2001 season on the road at a tournament hosted by the University of Virginia then travel to State College, Pa. for a match against Penn State. The Cardinal then trek down to College Station, Tx. to face both Texas and Texas A&M.

'We've always been known to have one of the toughest schedules in the country, and we may have outdone ourselves this time around,' said head coach Don Shaw. 'We have our work clearly cut out for us but I think our players will be ready for the challenges ahead.'

The Cardinal return four of six starters for the 2001 season, including two-time All-American Logan Tom and freshman All-Pac-10 selection, Sara McGee. Stanford went 19-12, 10-8 Pac-10 in 2000, falling to UC-Santa Barbara in the second round of the tournament.
