Briggs Earns Finishes of Third, Fourth At NCAA Zone E Diving Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Senior diver Marc Briggs, who set an Arizona State school record on platform a year ago with 483.40 points, tallied 520.50 points Saturday to finish fourth at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
Briggs was less than six points out of second-place on platform, but finished more than 22-points ahead of the next closest finisher, Arizona's Omar Ojeda, who took fifth with a score of 497.90. Two of Ojeda's teammates, Rubin Vaca and Josh Anderson finished one-two on platform with sums of 534.65 and 526.30, respectively. Brigham Young's Justin Wilcock produced 525.30 points for third-place.
Briggs' best finish of the day came on the 3-meter springboard where he edged Wilcock's 526.20 by two-and-a-half tenths (0.25) to place third with 526.45. Ojeda's 605.65 won the event, with BYU's Aaron Russell taking second at 572.50.
A pair of Sun Devil women turned in impressive performances as well. On platform, senior Trish Malatesta scored 370.45 points to finish seventh, while junior Natalie Burgess finished 18th on the 1-meter springboard with an effort of 223.80.
Stanford's Erin Sones was the platform champion at 433.10, while USC's Kellie Brennan took the 1-meter title in 286.20.
