March 10, 2001
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Senior Adrienne Judie improved her personal-best and school-record mark by two inches, placing fourth and earning her first career All-America honors in the women's weight-throw in the final day of the 2001 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center Saturday.
Judie turned in an effort of 66 feet, 10 inches, just 1.5 inches behind the third-place mark by Clemson's Jamine Moton. The senior thrower has steadily improved upon her previous personal best and school-record mark of 58-2.5, set last year.
Judie joins senior Kelly MacDonald as the two Sun Devils to earn indoor All-America honors at this year's national indoor championships. Yesterday, MacDonald placed fifth in the women's 5000m to earn her second straight indoor All-America nod in that event. The ASU women finished the two-day championship meet tied for 25th in team scoring with Kansas State (nine points). UCLA successfully defended its national title, placing first with 53.50 points.
Also competing for ASU in the final day of the NCAA championships was the men's 1600m-relay team of senior Michael Campbell, freshman Jason Barton, junior Pete Lopez and senior Tony Berrian. The team, which set an ASU record at the MPSF Championships two weeks ago, placed 11th in a time of 3:12.18, five seconds off their school-best performance.
With the indoor season coming to a close, the Sun Devils will take a week off competition before hosting the Baldy Castillo Invitational, Thursday, March 22 through Saturday, March 24 at Sun Angel Stadium.
