Nine-Run Sixth Inning Lifts UW Past SUU

SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning to cruise to a 12-3win over Southern Utah Saturday at Husky Ballpark. The team's had re-scheduled adoubleheader for Saturday, but decided to revert to the original schedule, which called for athree-game series. The Huskies will go for a series sweep Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Huskies (8-3) had trouble figuring out SUU starter Sky Grant (0-1) early in the game.The UW didn't manage a hit until the fourth, when Michael Done doubled to scoreTyler Davidson, who had reached on a walk. Up 3-1 heading into the sixth, the Huskies'bats came alive.
After the first batter struck out, the next eight UW batters recorded base hits, including atwo-run homer from Ben Miller, which was immediately followed by a solo homer fromcatcher Jefferson Thiel. Done closed out the inning's scoring with a three-run homer off ofreliever Cody Hunter.
Husky sophomore Sean White improved his won-lost record to 3-0 with the victory. Theright-hander from Mercer Island allowed one unearned run on six hits and no walks oversix innings. His season earned run average is now 2.00 after three starts. Grant threw fiveand one-third innings in the loss.
Done led the Husky hitters, going 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Brandon Jacobsonwith 2-for-3 with two singles, two runs and two stolen bases. Bryan Johnson was the onlyother Husky with multiple hits (2-for-4) as all nine starters in the batting order werereplaced in the seventh or eighth inning.
Curtis Jacobsen led the Thunderbirds (1-14), going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
After Sunday's series-ending game vs. Southern Utah, Washington will take the week offfor finals. Next Saturday, USC comes to Husky Ballpark for the first Pac-10 series of theseason.
