No. 69 Men's Tennis Dominates Portland State, Wins 7-0
March 10, 2001
EUGENE, Ore. - In its final home match of the season, the No. 69 Oregon men's tennis team went out in grand fashion, defeating Portland State 7-0. The Ducks improve to 8-6 on the season and have won their last three matches.
'I thought the team handled it well and dominated with class, which I think is important,' Oregon head coach Chris Russell said. 'A match like this helps a little with confidence, but it's not going to boost us up to a real high level.'
In the No. 1 doubles spot, David Becker and Oded Teig defeated Luke Schroter and Michael Thoeresz 8-4. Jason Menke and Buck Mink won their sixth consecutive match in the No. 2 spot, defeating Corey Bennett and Adam Rothert 8-4. Freshman Chris King and Greg Dubourdieu shut out Andy Minor and Cody Hoversland, winning 8-0.
Oregon also dominated the singles matches led by Teig at the No. 1 spot. Teig defeated Schroter, 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 18-9 on the season. Teig has won eight of his last 10 competitions. Mink continued to have success in the No. 2 spot, defeating Thoeresz 6-2, 6-1. Mink has now won six of his last seven matches.
Oregon travels to South Alabama March 27 to begin a string of eight consecutive road matches.
