Below are selected quotes from head coach Ben Braun and several Golden Bear players about Cal meeting Fresno State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday in Memphis, Tenn.
Sophomore Brian Wethers~
'Going to the tournament is definitely a rush. I'm just excited to be a part of it. This is something we've worked hard all throughout the preseason, the Pac-10, and now we're just happy to be rewarded for our efforts. We know Fresno State is a good team and they have a great coach. No doubt they have a lot of talent. We're definitely satisfied. We're just happy to be in any bracket and get a chance to play in the tournament. We know that we have to practice hard this whole week to prepare for them.'
Head Coach Ben Braun~
'Five years ago, we won our last game of the tournament against a great Arizona team, and they go into the tournament and go on a six-game winning streak and win a national title as a No. 5 seed. I want our players to feel good about going to the tournament and to know that the tournament rewards teams that improve and play well from game to game. I think there's an opportunity for our team to go out there and show what we can do. I'm not concerned about seedings right now. You're going to have to play a good team, and once you get past your first game, you're going to have to play a really good team in the second round. Right now, if we're fortunate to get past Fresno State and we meet up with Michigan State, then that will be a great match-up in the second round, but that match-up will never take place unless both teams win a game.'
Senior Morgan Lingle~
'It's a dream come true and I'm excited to continue playing.'
Sophomore Shantay Legans~
'Fresno State has great athletes, great players and a great coach. Coach Braun is going to prepare us since he's been there before. However he prepares us, that's how we're going to get ready.'
Senior Sean Lampley~
'I'm sure Fresno State will be up for us and I'm sure it's going to be a good game. I'm excited, too, that we're in there, but I think my emotions will come out on the floor when we get to the tournament. I didn't care what bracket or seed we were. We could have been a 16th seed, I just wanted to make it to the tournament. I'm pleased that we're in. We've been through a lot of turmoil, especially myself and Morgan (Lingle) the four years that we've been with Cal. We struggled and we got over it. I think that just shows the adversity that we went through and we made it. You've got to just listen to the people who have been there before, and that's our coaching staff. I think they'll lead us into this tournament.'
